True Blue and thrifted too.

I'm finding it difficult to get back into the habit of blogging after taking a break. I've just lost my momentum, somehow. Not to mention the fact that the sweltering heat is making me feel somewhat less than inspired to wear any clothes at all. I wore this lightweight sweater to go see a movie this evening because I usually freeze in an air conditioned theater, but arrived on the scene to find that the theater's air conditioning was out. I could have removed the sweater at that point but I was feeling self conscious about my lumpy midsection which I believed the sweater was camouflaging. As you can see in the side view the sweater was only doing a moderately good job at this. I might as well have opted to be cool.

The sweater, skirt, shoes and earrings are all from local thrift stores. The skirt is too tight but I keep wearing it in the hopes that it will loosen up. It eventually does. But not until after two or three wears and by that time I've usually spilled something on it and need to launder it again. If I were sensible I'd just get myself a denim skirt that fits comfortably when it's clean. I haven't because I like everything about this skirt except the fact that it doesn't fit me. I'm not sure why I am so silly sometimes. I find my own behavior a bit bewildering when I try to analyze it. So I will stop.

  1. What a pretty sweater. I like cardigans and especially ones with a print or bead work.
We are ever hopeful that somehow magic will occur and a favorite clothing item will fit. At least I am.
    Pretty shoes too.
I like your hair, very pretty.

    1. Thanks Debbi!

I bought this sweater with the idea that I was going to indulge in some fierce pattern mixing with it. Or at least wear it with a navy striped shirt. So far I've only managed to pair it with a white T or tank. It's an odd color of blue/green, which I really like, but which doesn't seem to play well with most of my other clothes- except denim which kind of works with everything IMO.

  2. I like the sweater, blue is good on you. I think the hair color looks natural. The shoes have such a cute vintage flair. I know what you mean about clothing that almost fits. I have a closet full of those items. It is so frustrating. I often wonder how other people can keep items for years as my weigh fluctuates often. Even only a weight gain of 5 lbs can make a pair of pants uncomfortable.

    1. Thanks Adrienne!
I am really happy with the new hair. It still seems to be changing color daily but luckily I have liked each new color- auburn, ginger, strawberry blonde - so I can't complain. I almost didn't buy these shoes, even though they were only $5, because they are "J.Lo" brand. Not because I don't like her but just because I associate her style with an overt sexiness that just is not me. But the shoes seemed so vintage-y and sweet and, well, for five bucks- why not? I get asked every time I wear them if they are vintage and now, for some reason, I get a kick out of replying "No, J. Lo"

  3. Laughing so hard at your reasons for keeping the skirt and reasons why you shouldn't analogy. haha I do that same sort of thing with clothing and feel crazy for hanging onto something that isn't just right just because xy and z.
But you look great. Love those gold shoes.
I bought two skirts in a similar length, but am finding they don't really work for me because when I sit they ride up too short. Not appropriate for work, so I'll have to wear them on off days in mostly non sitting situations. haha See...a perfect example of the silliness.

    1. Thanks Lisa,
My husband, Chris, would say that this is the difference between men and women. Not that men don't care about style but that men simply would not put up with an outfit that they could only stand up in! My latest fitting conundrum- is it possible to have a a pair of dress pants that looks nice on my butt when I'm standing (i.e. not saggy) but doesn't feel like it's about to disintegrate when I sit down? (because there is a fair amount of "spread" in that area) So far the answer seems to be NO.

  4. I finally shifted from a pencil profile to a gathered profile with my denim skirt this summer and I like it--a lot less confining. The shoes are fabulous. Did they mark down your ticket for having no AC?

  5. Ahh, no. They did not knock off any money for the broken AC. But it was a student priced ticket at least- since I haven't had my thesis accepted yet I felt I still qualified.

  6. I love those shoes! They remind me of a couple of pairs I've had over the years.

Ya know, there are a lot of other denim skirts out there in thrift-land. ;-P Get one that you really love!
