Oh, Gaucho.

I'm not sure what it is about this hat but whenever I wear it I feel like something. I mean something other than just a person wearing a hat. Today I feel that I look like a gaucho.

I'm beginning to fear the prospect of creating outfits for the summer heat. It's pretty cool and overcast around here today but when it heats up it will be too hot for jeans and sleeves and shoes. Even jewelry feels like too much when its 100 degrees. I've always defaulted to the not particularly exciting combo of full skirt, tank top and sandals when the mercury rises but that rarely results in outfits that seem worthy of blogging about. And then there's the problem of having minimal flab camouflage potential.

Hats and sunglasses will help spice things up a bit but I don't tend to wear them inside. I'm going to have to put some thought into ways to inject more style into my summer look without inducing pools of sweat and possible heat stroke. Stay tuned to see if I'm up to the challenge. And, of course, bring on the suggestions if you have them.

  1. Beautiful! The necklace with the hat is just right. Sorry, no tips about how to handle the heat in style from here - our summers tend to the cool side...

    1. Thanks, Melanie.
Both the necklace and the hat are things I don't wear as often as I think I should so it's nice that they seem to work together. Kind of like the nerdy kids at school finding each other at lunch.

    1. Thanks Wendy.
Coincidentally, this was one of those outfits that I think actually photographed better than it looked in real life. So I guess it goes both ways. Or perhaps it's all in our heads?

  3. Wow girl you are looking so slim in this outfit. I like it you prove that horizontal stripes can be slimming..
I'm coming up with a similar post about what to wear in the heat as Virginia can get very hot and muggier here, ton of humidity.

    1. Thanks! I did pick the slenderest looking pictures- there were some much more lumpy looking ones. But I have this same shirt in plain navy blue and I think it is much more flattering in the stripe. In the navy (at least in photos) I seem to look like just a big dark blob but with the stripe you can see more body contour, which I think is more appealing than the blobby-ness.

I'm eagerly looking forward to your hot weather style post. I do enjoy our summers and I was pleased to move somewhere that has as close to regular seasonal changes as we get in California but I'm still struggling with wanting to get out and enjoy the great weather and then sweating through my shirt in about 3 minutes. So glamorous!

  4. I think full skirts, tanks, sandals, and maybe more hats sounds fun for summer. Maybe you can take some photos outdoors with your sunglasses too.
I don't have a photographer and no tripod (and no fancy camera, lol) so my best camera propping place is the bedroom dresser. I'll try to get out on our back patio more when it warms up a little bit though. It's just quicker to head 10 feet to the bedroom....and I'm lazy. haha
Love your striped top and hat.

  5. I've tried a couple times to take photos outside but I feel so much more awkward for some reason- even if it's in my own backyard (which is full of waist high weeds at the moment, anyway.)I just can't seem to loosen up while I'm imagining my neighbors snickering behind their shades wondering, "What is this looney up too?" and "Who does this one think she is? Tyra Banks?" I had this idea once that on the weekends I could convince Chris to take photos at picturesque places like all those young, fun, twentysomething bloggers but since I nearly have a nervous breakdown in my own yard it looks like the location shots are out!
